Guess who ?? hehe

Hi there !

In case you haven't noticed .....I'M BAAAAAAACK
Now you're in for trouble haha

It was good to get away. Even if it wasn't long enough.

My friend Jean lives out in the middle of nowhere. Wow. An old country road that is 2.9 kms long (not quite two miles) and she is the only house on it ! And she is near the end of it. Well, there is another house about a half mile down the road, but it had been left to rot and someone only keeps a half dozen cattle there at the barn. And it is so peaceful and quiet there, every once in a while you hear a cow moo.

(view from Jeans' driveway looking towards the east - barn with the cows is just past where the road looks like it ends at the trees)

Every direction you look, there are fields, trees, rocks. And because there are so much land there and very few houses, some of the fields aren't being worked. So a lot of wild flowers, long grass, unworked hay fields and such. I tell you, I thought it was the most beautiful sight I had seen in a very long time.

I couldn't get over how peaceful it was. There is so much rock up there. Just a skim of dirt here and there to cover it in spots so grass and flowers could grow. Houses with above ground basements or partial basements depending upon the shape of the rock the house was sitting on. Rock blasted to make way for roads so that you go by rock facings. I should have stopped and taken more pictures but I kept leaving my camera at her house.
(looking out Jeans backyard with the very old house that used to be alive with activity of
day to day living - left empty in later years until the roof caved in)

We took a trip into the town where her son will be attending high school. It was like a grade 9 orientation thing. Its about a half hour away from her house. First you go through a little town, Lavigne, then a little bit bigger town Verner, and on into Sturgeon Falls. And I tell you, I was quite contented to be passenger and just drinking in the sights and all that beauty. I was truly fascinated.

And it's not that I haven't been that far north before. When I was a kid, my family used to go to Manitoulin Island for a vacation every couple years, and from what I remember, it has the same similar beauty. But in the other direction. And the only time I had ever been in Sturgeon Falls was many years before when a roommate of mine decided she wanted to see if her and her ex could make a go of it and that is where he lived. The only problem was, once we got there, she stuck me inside a motel room and buggered off. It was night. Dark had fallen. And she took the car. So all I had seen of Sturgeon Falls that night was the inside of a motel room and I sure don't remember a thing about it when we left early the next morning.
So while Jeans son was doing this orientation thing, we travelled around town a bit. Now I can say I've actually seen something of Sturgeon Falls !! haha Definitely bigger than where I live at the moment, while Lavigne is similar in size or just slightly smaller than here.

Now. You know that things happen for a reason? Some say it's God working in mysterious ways. Some will call it fate.

Thursday evening, Jean had popped a roast into the oven. We had been out and about earlier, had a late lunch, so dinner was going to be about 8:30, which was ok by me. I was on a no-stress-just-relax-and-enjoy schedule anyways. But at one point, Jean decides she's going to put on a pot of coffee.
Yummmm
Turns on the kitchen tap and the water just spurts and sputters out and finally stops coming out.
That ain't right.
Thinks she hears something, so she turns off the radio and sure enough, the water pump in the basement is running. She goes into the bathroom and tests the tap and toilet there. Nada.
So she goes into a bit of a panic hoping that the water pump motor isn't burnt out.
The people that owned her house before her had offered any services they can offer while she is there while her husband still being down here, so she called them and they came right over. (They live about 5 minutes away) Dave tests the tap and he and Jean head down to the basement.
While they are down there, Dave's wife and I get talking. What I think of the area etc etc. Then Marie asked if Billy is still in school. I replied that he is 24 but is involved in a Life Skills program down where we live.
(and now for the mysterious part)
Marie starts telling me how Sturgeon Falls has a great Community Living program for adults such as Billy and they do all kinds of wonderful things throughout the year etc etc.
Wow
Jean and I had talked about the possibility of Billy and I moving up that way one day, but only if there were programs available that would get him out of the house instead of vegetating in front of a tv 24/7 with nothing better to do. I also figured I would end up in Sudbury though. About a half hour or so from Jean in the other direction. Or maybe Parry Sound, which is two hours away from Jean.
But Sturgeon Falls ??? I never ever would have thought of checking there specifically otherwise.
So when Dave and Marie finish their coffee and head home, I told Jean what Marie had said. I think she was just as excited as I was at the possibility of us moving that much closer.
So, the next day, Jean grabs two local newspapers to check the rental market in the area.
Wellllll. There are two houses to rent in Lavigne (about 10 minutes away from her house) that are cheaper than what this idiot basement apartment I live in is each month.
I said to Jean that if the bus company that she hired on with will let me take Billy on it, if I get hired on as well, to attend programs in SF, then find something part time while in SF between runs, it could be doable if I watch my pennies.
And in a year or two, when her son gets a little older and a little more mature, he might be willing to earn some mad money if I took on a better paying position elsewhere by keeping Billy company during those times I can't be home. After school of course, or on weekends.

Billy and I left about 4ish, telling Jean how much I was going to miss her down here and she just says "we'll have to work on getting you two up here". Awwwwww
On the way out of the area, I asked Billy if he thought he might want to live up 'here' but that it would mean we wouldn't see anybody we know anymore. No Bruce's. No Corey's. No Jasons. No Eds. Nobody that we bowl with. It would all be new faces, new friends to make, new bowling buddies. I didn't mention dad as I'm not sure how that is going to work out. It's up to his dad to put some effort into it if he wants to still see his son.
Billy says yeah.
Now, to be cautious, I want to make sure he wasn't reacting on the spur of the moment, the good peaceful time we had. And I have to make him understand that we wouldn't be living with Jean and her son, we would have our own place if we did move up there. But finding out what's what up there will take some time. And maybe another trip or two up there too *grins*.

Of course, my no-stress-just-relax-and-enjoy feeling was short lived when I got home. Got hit with a bunch of crap. One being my parents. Barely talk to me for a year and not a whole lot in the previous three years, I finally broke the ice (again) on the 9th, mom calls just over a week ago and gave me shit for this, that, and the other (got me upset) and because I wasn't home the other day to answer the phone or return a phone call, they were all set to come down and get in my face about shit (again). I'm tired of all that crap. No wonder I was contemplating running away a few months ago and contemplating moving north that far. But the true reasons why are another blog topic haha.

The one thing about being up there, I didn't watch tv. Didn't even have it on as background noise. Jean and her family aren't into computers, but she is considering maybe getting one to stay in touch with others from this area. Maybe. See how her long distance phone bill is first haha. She loves to talk. So while I wondered if anybody missed me (I posted my going to be gone a few days blog then ran out the door hahaha), I had thought of you and wondered how you were doing.

But I must say this place sure has been busy while I was away. WOW.  Between my contacts alone and the few groups I joined, there were over 200 new posts in my inbox !!!!

I do wish to say thanks to ...
... Cal for wishing me luck. Thursday did bring a surprise didn't it ? I just might end up there.
... Coolpap for being willing to buy Jeans house as well. You would love it.
... Moimoii for your well wishes. I came back refreshed and recharged and more determined to do what I need to do here at the moment. Really gave me time to think about stuff.
... Impy for saying you'll miss me. That meant a lot to me as well.

Missed you all and glad to be back so I can bug you all again *grins*
(I apologize for the novel here. And believe me, I edited a bit too haha)

Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend !!

Hi There ~

Just wanted to let my wonderful friends, contacts, and those that give a damm know that I'm going to be offline for a few days.

With some of the nonsense I've been dealing with of late, I've decided to take my friend up on her offer of coming for a visit before school gets into full swing again next week. It has also been about 18 years since I've not been staring at the same 4 walls week in and week out, 52 weeks of the year. Plus it would be good for Billy and I to get away from the present situation as well. Even for a few days. Give my head and heart a rest.

She's known for a year that she would be moving four hours north of me, but she didn't actually make it official until last weekend. Her house here hasn't sold yet and her husband is staying behind, but she wanted her son to start off the first day of school in his new school rather than begin the school year here and then get interrupted at some point. I may not agree with her reasoning, but I accepted her decision.

And she was so excited to get this next adventure under way. They had gone up every few weeks, slowing taking their stuff up, painting, etc since they closed on the new house. I was excited for her, seeing how animated she was whenever she talked about the fact she could hardly wait until she was up there permanently. And even when the thought of her moving so far away was killing me, I would joke about "when I win the lottery, I'll buy your house here so you can move up without any worries". Well, joke yes, but at the same time I was serious. Her house that she is moving from was originally built in the late 1800's or very early 1900's, with a couple additions and upgrades over the years, but still holds a lot of character. I love all the old charm that is still in there.

I'm not sure when exactly I'll be back. I just know I have to be back for Tuesday morning. Gotta listen to those kids either grumble because summer is over or they'll be all excited school is back into full swing again.

I'll miss you and I'll catch up with you when I get back.

Take care and stay safe.

*hugsssssssssssss*

Free Sqirlz Water Reflections Download

This one downloads onto your computer. You can edit your picture as to how you want your waves to show, how much, whether it snows or rains, etc.
The only thing I found is that once you get it set up the way you like it, and choose to save it (I only tried to save a gif so far) the program 'builds' and depending upon the speed of your computer, it will take a few minutes or a while. So if you like the idea of controlling the waves etc., you can set it up and while it's building, just go do something else (vacuum? lol) and let it do it's thing.
Thank you to wwstables for finding this also.

Image reflection generator - create reflections with Reflection Maker

http://www.reflectionmaker.com/
This is a pretty neat program to do something different with your pictures.
It isn't a download onto your computer. You can do everything right from the site itself. Provide a URL of a picture or browse for one already on your computer, pick a background color, the size of the reflection (100 is good), generate and voila ! you can see what your picture is like. Can tweak size and background color while it's still sitting there. Then either click the download link underneath or right-click and save it that way.
Pretty cool app if you don't want to drag out the photo editing software you have and do it the hard way lol
Enjoy

United Friends Challenge #64

Spaceeagle's Challenge
What does freedom mean to you?

This is a tough one Cal.
I think about the girl I used to be, with all her hopes and dreams. Her thoughts for her future. Being shy and bashful, looking at the world with a bit of curiosity while also being slightly nervous of it as well.  Is a big world out there for a girl from a small 'hamlet'.  The issues she was dealing with at the time that didn't instill a lot of self-esteem or self-confidence. Being the oldest of two boys, two girls. Always being told that she needed to set an example for the younger ones, so she always felt she couldn't truly be herself. She already knew she was a good person and would always do the right thing. But basically feeling like every fiber of her being was being controlled by a mother that didn't want her to make the same mistakes, to grow up in an environment like she did. While allowing the younger ones to be themselves, to discover the big bad world out there, to grow.
One of the happiest days of this young woman's life was when her hometown didn't have the employment opportunities for someone finishing school, and she had to move away to make her mark in the world.  Got a job. Got her own apartment. Nobody telling her what to do or how to act or how to think. And it was taking time to discover what she had hidden for so long. Finding the freedom was available to her to make her own mistakes and learn from them. What was important to her and what wasn't.  And she was doing alright.
But she hadn't finished her journey of self-discovery, figuring out who and what she was, when her childhood reared it's ugly head again. She never was taught that it was ok to say no. That there were ways to stand up for herself.  That it was ok to be true to herself and do what is right for her to do. She didn't know that she didn't have to bow down to another all the time. She didn't know that there are times you might have to hurt someones feelings and there was a way to do it, with compassionate words and genuine emotions. That it should have been important to remain true to herself.
Always hearing that a girl marries a man like her father.
She met a man and having thought she was just easy going and there are other things to fret and worry about, she took some things in stride. When he moved in without telling her, she didn't know how to tell him no. When he asked her to marry him, she didn't know how to say no. She didn't want to hurt his feelings because she was always told to watch what you say so you do not hurt someone else's feelings. Going through the motions for the next year, without recognizing her body and soul was trying to tell her something. Getting cold feet before the wedding, but having been taught that you always do the right thing, she thought of all the money that had been spent up until that point, she did the right thing and went through with it.
Knowing within two years she had made the biggest mistake of her life. She didn't marry her father. She married her mother. She had little self-esteem and self-confidence growing up. Now she had none at all. Wanting out but afraid to tell him. Afraid of his anger, his words. Then finding out she was pregnant and getting so sick she almost lost the baby and die herself.
The next 20 or so years was a major undertaking. It didn't get any better. Always believing that once you married, you married for life, she made attempts at improving things for the family unit. But not having learned how to stand up for herself and what was right for her, things would only get worse. Knowing she had left behind a very vital part of herself but not knowing what it was or how to get it back.
It wasn't until she discovered the online community on her computer when she started to figure things out. That it was ok to be herself. To have a sense of humour and find people that would actually laugh with her. People that allowed her little bursts of standing up for herself without belittling her or criticizing her for it. People that didn't think her hopes and dreams were stupid or not important. People that were in actually in awe of her and proud of her. People that didn't think she needed to be told what to do and how to do it and all that.
So over time, she was discovering what had happened in her childhood. She was discovering how and why her childhood shaped her future the way it had. She was discovering why she married the man she did. She was discovering that she wanted to be around people that accepted her for the being her. Discovering that there are people that will accept her for being herself. Not all her ideals and quirky ways were too weird and needed to change. People that didn't beat that out of her with their words.
Getting some of that self-esteem and self-confidence back. Learning that it's ok to stand up for herself and for what she believed in. Learning that she is stronger than she always gave herself credit for.
Accepting the guilt and the regrets for some of the things that have happened over the years, but not embracing them anymore and beating herself up over them. To just let them go and move on. To take what she has learned about her past and shape her future to truly be herself. To finally accept that she does have a right to live her life and that she and her son will be better off when she acts upon the ultimate decision.

My Motorcycle Theme

This is based on the Custom Colors Theme with some CSS tweaks thrown in.
You won't get the wolf eyes in the textarea of the reply box or the
Two Wolves graphic in the Welcome box.

I've having trouble with the 'width' being stripped in two spots on the CSS
code at the moment, and I thought I had cleaned it up so it wouldn't.
If you do use this, let me know if it's still glitching.

Patti ;-)

United Friends Challenge #63 - Hey You

Bellemom06's Challenge
Write a letter, or poem to your teen self.

"MO-OOOOOMMMMM Where's my yearbook? I want to put it in my treasure chest before we move"
"How would I know where you put it? I haven't seen it"
"Never mind. I found it"
(and envelope slips out from between the pages and flutters to the floor)
"What the ?"

Heyyyyyy Pat !

It's me ! You !
About a hundred years into the future.
Ok. I know I've just knocked you onto your butt with that.
Actually I'm only about 30 years into it.
Guess that means I've just told you we'll hit middle age at least.
I am actually older than what mom and dad are now.
Well, how old they are when you are finding this.
And no, I'm not old enough to be your grandmother, so don't even think it.
You don't know it yet, but you are going to be fine, even if people tend to think of you being a little quirky, sometimes weird, and not an easy person to understand at times. Some will even like you that way. Because you are just being yourself. Always remember that. Don't let anybody ever try to change who you are ok? Be honest and true to yourself, and you'll be honest and true to the people that really like that about you.

You'll have 10 kids.
There you go again. On your butt haha
Kidding.
But you will have one child that will be a joy to you and teaches you a lot about yourself. Things you don't know now. And I'm not going to deny you that experience of self discovery. Is the one thing that still keeps me in awe today, that I could embrace something so much that I live and breathe it. I had to. You have to. That child will need you.
And I know you can and will do it. Believe me when I say, you wouldn't want it any other way either.

I know you hate being the oldest child and all the responsibilities that get heaped upon you right now by mom and dad. You even feel like you're missing out on being a teenager by having to do the right thing all the time. I can't say that it will change much. Only the responsibilities themselves will change. And that's not a bad thing. It's part of being an adult. You're even looking forward to some of them. I know you are.

But I will tell you that you won't lose some of that child-like innocence and quality about yourself.
No, don't groan and roll your eyes. I know you are doing that. I would have at that age if someone told me I'd be this old and still be child-like. Sounds like an insult, doesn't it? But it's not really.
Just means you will be young at heart in many ways. You won't be a old hag with wet pin-curls drying while you are sleeping.
Ohhhh I know you rolled your eyes with that one. ha ha
Don't worry. Mom will get out of that pin-curl habit eventually.
But I will tell you that you will still blush. And when someone does, don't be too hard on them ok? It's a rare treat to find someone that still blushes at this ripe old age, in this day and age. With you blushing, you remind them of their youth and how they could make their girlfriends blush, while hiding their own blush .. like some teenagers do.

Some dreams come true, some don't. One dream that will come true, won't be the way you imagine it should. It has to do with a certain dream when we were thirteen. You associate the dream as a materialistic thing, when it won't be. The dream will be part of your identity - who and what you are - on the inside. And not many people will recognize that dream for what it really is. I know 'we' didn't for many years. Took a friend from Oregon (yes, I did say Oregon) to clue us into that fact. But I've said too much. I will refrain from telling you any more. But when you think that dream is dead in the water sort of thing, It didn't die. Just changed. Revealed itself to what it truly was meant to be.

Life won't be all that easy, not like you imagine it will be like. I know, teenagers do have their ideals about what life will be like. The reality can be quite different. There will be some ups and downs, but you'll survive. There will even be times you question your own sanity about the choices you made. It's a learning experience and just makes you a stronger person for it. There will be some bad days. There will be some good days. And then there will be a great day. You'll know it when it happens. You'll crave it and work towards it. With ever fiber of your being. It'll take a while, and you'll feel like giving up, but please don't. Not to us. Not to that child.

You'll be fine Patti. You will survive. You'll be strong. And when life throws you a curve ball, hit it back with the bat.

Never forget. I love you.

Patti

P.S. Don't fret your name too much. I know you dislike it because it's everybody else's names. Mom's cousin, mom's middle name, and your last name is always going to be because of some guy, whether it's dad's or a husbands. And you will continue to experiment with how people will know you as. But you know what I figured out? It's just a name. It doesn't define who you are. Your soul will do that for you.

Canadian Idol 6 - Mookie and Drew

We are nearing the end of season 6 of Canadian Idol, with the top 7 vying for Idoldom (lol).
Mookie and Drew are local boys to me.
Mookie is from Toronto, but his family has a cottage not too far from the town I live in at present, so is considered a local boy in this area.
Drew is from the small town just up the road, about 15 minutes away. And with his age being 18, is possible he was on a school charter I had done. I don't know. I just know he looked familiar the first time I saw him on tv.
I know which one I am leaning more towards earning the title Canadian Idol. The next couple weeks will tell the tale.
Mookie was in the bottom 3 last week though, which I thought was odd. Loved the way he sang Ophelia the week before. Maybe not enough supporters voting for him like Drew?

Mookie Morris - Ophelia

Mookie Morris - Naive

Drew Wright - The Grace

Drew Wright - The Reason
