Canadian Snowbirds Dedication

*UPDATE: I updated the video with the latest unfortunate fallen snowbird Shawn McCaughey. Died doing what he loved and did best!!.
Video i made in memory of the snowbirds that have died. I've always been an admirer of the entire snowbird team.

I chose this video to upload on my page because of several reasons.
One being standing on the ground watching these guys, you just don't get the true feel of how close they fly together.
Two being that it is in rememberance of the Snowbird pilots that have died being part of this team.
Three being that I thought it was a beautiful song that Patrick chose to use in his video.
And the Snowbird precision team do this, travelling around from air show to air show just so we get a thrill watching them. And they are amazing to watch.

Triumph - Hold On

Another great Canadian Band - Off of the album Just A Game

Music hold the secret,
To know it can make you whole
It's not just a game of notes,
It's the sound inside your soul
The magic of the melody
Runs through you like a stream
The notes the play flow through your head
Like a dream
Like a dream
Like a dream

I sing this song for the common man
For the people in despair
I bring my song into the world
And I sing it everywhere
The simple truth lies waiting here
For everyone to share
So hold on, and I will take you there
Hold on and I will take you there

The daily routine takes your soul,
Lost without a trace
It hold you down and turns you 'round
And puts you in your place
Another day, another dollar
Another pretty face
Another chance to lose yourself
In the endless race

CHORUS

Hold on, hold on to your dreams
Hold on, even though it seems
Everyone around you has their little schemes
Listen to your heart and hold on to your dreams

Can't you feel the magic
Feel it everywhere
Can't you hear the music
There's something in the air
There's a celebration
Deep within a song
Celebrate this feeling,
You know it can't be wrong

CHORUS

Caught up in routine,
You got to break it
Time won't wait for us,
We got to make it
Fate gives you the chance
You've got to take it
Take it

Hold on

Robbie Robertson - Fallen Angel

1987 - "Robbie Robertson"
with Peter Gabriel

NB: Universal has a video for this song, but you can embed this one for blogs, bulletin boards, FB & [ech]My Space

Lyrics:

Are you out there
Can you hear me
Can you see me in the dark

I don't believe it's all for nothing
It's not just written in the sand
Sometimes I thought you felt too much
And you crossed into the shadowland

And the river was overflowing
And the sky was fiery red
You gotta play the hand that's dealt ya
That's what the old man always said

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one

In my dream the pipes were playing
In my dream I lost a friend
Come down Gabriel and blow your horn
'Cause some day we will meet again

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one

All the tears
All the rage
All the blues in the night
If my eyes could see
You kneeling in the silver light

Fallin', fallin', fallin' down
Fallin', fallin' down
Fallin', fallin', fallin' down
Fallin', fallin' down

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one

All the tears
All the rage
All the blues in the night
If my eyes could see
You kneeling in the silver light

If you're out there can you touch me
Can you see me I don't know
If you're out there can you reach me
Lay a flower in the snow

Colin James - Far Away Like A Radio

Canadian Artist Colin James's Music Video For 'Far Away Like A Radio'.

All broke down, comin' in low,
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

I was ridin' shotgun with the driver
The love is in the rounders
Come along with me to LA
Me and my bride on a Greyhound back
She took a piece out of me that I'll never get back

All broke down, comin' in low, comin' in low
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

Ghosts in a shot glass, and lonely all around
Can't help but catch a buzz when you come into this town
Darkness in a box man, you better send a scout
There's a door to keep you in, but none to let you out

All broke down, comin' in low, comin' in low
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

Head on my shoulder, mouth just catchin' flies
A stranger out of stories has just talked himself dry
Half of him will make it to LA by tomorrow
The rest of him will have to make it, beg, steal or borrow

One end of town laughin' at the other
They got ragin' home wreckers makin' welfare mothers
Street hosed down when the dawn breaks low
Shinin' like a mirror so all the shadows won't show

All broke down, comin' in low, comin' in low
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

All the happy endings that I've heard about,
Stories left unwritten, we'll have to figure it out

Guitar solo

All broke down, comin' in low, comin' in low
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

All broke down, comin' in low, comin' in low
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

All broke down, comin' in low, comin' in low
Far away like a radio
Red lights flash
Static and snow
Far away like a radio

My Redeemer Lives - Team Hoyt

A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?' The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let's join the Ironman together.'

To which, his father said 'Yes' ...

For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island .

Father and son went on to complete the race together.

I got this in an email today from my friend Jebbie, and even though I had seen this story before, I still cried at the end. What dad did for his son, and the reaction on his sons face as they were going through this together was inspiring.

Massachusetts fishing town reels from news of teen pregnancy pact

By Melissa Trujillo, The Associated Press

GLOUCESTER, Mass. - The girls showed up repeatedly at the high school health clinic, asking for pregnancy tests. But their reactions to the test results were puzzling: high-fives if they were expecting, long faces if they weren't.

School officials in this hard-luck New England fishing town say an alarming 17 girls - four times the usual number - became pregnant this year. And even more disturbing: Some of the girls may have made a pact to have babies and raise them together.

"A typical girl you would think would say, 'Oh my God! What am I going to do now? How am I going to support this baby? How am I going to finish school?"' Supt. Christopher Farmer said. "These young women clearly have not seen that."

The story exploded after Joseph Sullivan, the principal of Gloucester High School, was quoted by Time magazine this week as saying the girls confessed to making such a pact. Sullivan was on vacation Friday and did not return calls for comment.

The superintendent said he had no independent confirmation of a pact. But he added: "What we do know is there was a group of students being tested for pregnancy on a regular basis, which would suggest they were not taking steps to avoid becoming pregnant, and that when some of them had their babies, they appeared to be very pleased."

None of the girls or their families have come forward to confirm any type of pact, and school and health officials have not identified any of the youngsters.

The girls are all 16 or under, nearly all of them sophomores. The superintendent said they have been reluctant to identify the fathers, many of whom are older. But one of them "is a 24-year-old homeless guy," the principal was quoted as telling Time.

City and school officials in this town of about 30,000 people 50 kilometres north of Boston have been struggling for months to explain and deal with the pregnancies, where on average only four girls a year at the 1,200-student high school become pregnant.

Just last month, two officials at the high school health centre resigned to protest the local hospital's refusal to support a proposal to distribute contraceptives to youngsters at the school without parental consent. The hospital controls the clinic's funding.

Mayor Carolyn Kirk said Friday there are many contributing factors to what she called a "blip" in the pregnancy rate, from glamorization of teen pregnancy in pop culture to cuts in funding that have reduced teachers and health classes in Gloucester.

"We have fallen on hard times," Kirk said of her city, which has suffered in recent decades with the decline in the fishing industry that has defined Gloucester since the colonial era.

Gloucester is the town that lost six fishermen in the 1991 shipwreck that inspired the book and movie "The Perfect Storm." Its high school teams are known as the Fighting Fishermen.

Student Council member Emily Spreer said many of the girls came from difficult socioeconomic circumstances: "Their circle or clique, they're not the most fortunate family-wise."

"If you're a young person who really is struggling to find an identity for herself, absent the support and the guidance, it can become almost a default option for some to become a mom," said Patricia Quinn, executive director of the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy. "We need to do more for young people and show them more paths."

Gloucester - a heavily Roman Catholic town with a large Italian and Portuguese population - has long been supportive of teen mothers. The high school has a day care centre for students and employees.

Christen Callahan, a former Gloucester High student who had a child when she was 15, said on NBC's "Today" show that some of the girls would ask her about her own pregnancy. "They would say stuff like, 'Oh, I think my parents would be fine with it and they would help me,' stuff like that," Callahan said.

Sarah Brown, chief executive of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, suggested some of the blame lies with the country's Hollywood-obsessed culture, in which stories about pregnant celebrities abound.

Just this week, 17-year-old TV star Jamie Lynn Spears, the unmarried sister of Britney Spears, gave birth. "Juno," a wry comedy about a 16-year-old girl who gets pregnant, was one of the most acclaimed movies of the year.

"Baby bumps get written about the same way designer handbags do. It's just one more lifestyle choice, just another personal expression: these shoes, this bump and that handbag," Brown said. "It's not surprising that teenage girls can get confused or even seduced by the allure of celebrity pregnancy."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Ok. The reason I posted this blog about this 'pact' is because of a recent thread on my page. I had posted a quote and a bit of a discussion occurred between myself, a friend, and a friend of a friend. In this thread, the friend of a friend mentioned this pact in one of his replies. I hadn't heard about this pact when he mentioned it, so I could not comment on it. I mean, how can I possibly comment on something I had no knowledge of?
It showed up on my Yahoo! Canada home page today, so I read the above news story about it.
I cannot agree with this persons take on this 'pregnancy pact' totally. According to the above story, there are extenuating circumstances that goes along with it. I will say that this is the wrong way for these girls to go about all this, but if this is what they felt was the only path offered to them due to "difficult socioeconomic circumstances" without the proper support and guidance they desperately needed, who am I to say that what they have done is a shameful act? That this is a reflection upon a society of bleeding hearts that took the shame away from teenage pregnancies? How many of these girls lost their fathers in 1991, that was highlighted in the movie The Perfect Storm with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg, leaving all-of-a-sudden single mothers to raise them the best they could with what they had at hand?
Add to that the media's feeding frenzy when it comes to who is pregnant lately. Angelina Jolie, Jamie Lyn Spears to name two. Every time you turn around, there is a front page story, complete with pictures about these pregnancies. The media tends to glamortize pregnancies amongst the rich, the famous, the notorious. The rag mags blaring it on the front cover at the check out stands who is pregnant, who is divorcing, etc etc, with no thought to truth or community awareness. Is whatever sells.
Canada may be behind the times in some ways, but some schools are offering condom machines in the washrooms. They have accepted that teenagers WILL have sex. They offer the education as well, but the kids will make up their own minds if they are ready and willing. And what better way to give them a fighting chance at their future by helping them not get pregnant too soon? Is all about educating them about the consequences.
But considering the whole story to these girls at this high school getting pregnant, I cannot say I am ashamed. I am saddened that these girls felt this was their only option in their lives.
Gotta Love Carlin !
GEORGE CARLIN'S NEW RULES FOR 2008.
(Note: these aren't for the timid!)
New Rule: No more gift registries.
You know, it used to be just for weddings. Now it's for babies and new homes and graduations from rehab. Picking out the stuff you want and having other people buy it for you isn't gift giving, it's the white people version of looting.
New Rule: Stop giving me that pop-up ad for
classmates.com!
There's a reason you don't talk to people for 25 years.
Because you don't particularly like them! Besides, I already know what the captain of the football team is doing these days --- mowing my lawn.
New Rule: Don't eat anything that's served to you out a window unless you're a seagull.
People are acting all shocked that a human finger was found in a bowl of Wendy's chili. Hey, it cost less than a dollar. What did you expect it to contain? Lobster?
New Rule: Stop saying that teenage boys who have sex with their hot, blonde teachers are permanently damaged.
I have a better description for these kids: 'Lucky bastards.'
New Rule: Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone.
Here's how much men care about your eyebrows:
Do you have two of them? Good, we're done.
New Rule: There's no such thing as flavored water.
There's a whole aisle of this crap at the supermarket, water, but, without that watery taste. Sorry, but flavored water is called a soft drink. You want flavored water? Pour some scotch over ice and let it melt, that's your flavored water.
New Rule: Stop screwing with old people.
Target is introducing a redesigned pill bottle that's square, with a bigger label. And the top is now the bottom. And by the time grandpa figures out how to open it, his ass will be in the morgue.
Congratulations, Target, you just solved the Social Security crisis.
New Rule: I'm not the cashier!
By the time I look up from sliding my card, entering My PIN number, pressing 'Enter,' verifying the amount, deciding, no, I don't want Cash back, and pressing 'Enter' again, the kid who is supposed to be ringing me up is standing there eating my Almond Joy.
New Rule: Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you Spiritual.
It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to 'beef with broccoli.' The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high.
New Rule: Competitive eating isn't a sport.
It's one of the seven deadly sins. ESPN recently televised the US Open of Competitive Eating, because watching those athletes at the poker table was just too damned exciting. What's next, competitive farting? Oh wait, they're already doing that. It's called 'The Howard Stern Show.'
New Rule : I don't need a bigger mega M&Ms.
If I'm extra hungry for M&Ms, I'll go nuts and eat two.
New Rule:If you're going to insist on making movies based on crappy old television shows, then you have to give everyone in the Cineplex a remote so we can see what's playing on the other screens.
Let's remember the reason something was a television show in the first place is that the idea wasn't good enough to be a movie.
New Rule: When I ask how old your toddler is, I don't need to hear '27 months.'
'He's two' will do just fine. He's not a cheese.
And I didn't really care in the first place.
New Rule: If you ever hope to be a credible adult and want a job that pays better than Minimum wage, then for God's sake don't pierce or tattoo every available piece of flesh.
If so, then plan your future around saying, 'Do you want fries with that?
Teacher and the desks ... borrowed from Cyn with thanks
(I loved this story. What a lesson!)
Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a
social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock,
Arkansas, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school,
with permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the
building supervisor, she took all of the desks out of the classroom.
The kids came into first period and there were no desks. They obviously
looked around and said, Ms. Cothren, where're our desks? And she said,
You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them.
They responded, Well, maybe it's our grades. No, she said.
Maybe it's our behavior. And she told them, No, it's not even your
behavior.
And so they came and went in the first period, still no desks in the
classroom. Second period, same thing, third period too. By early
afternoon television news crews had gathered in Ms. Cothren's class to
find out about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of the
classroom.
The last period of the day, Martha Cothren gathered her class. They were
at this time sitting on the floor around the sides of the room. And she
says, Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the
desks that sit in this classroom ordinarily. She said, Now I'm going to
tell you.
Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it, and
as she did 27 U.S. veterans, wearing their uniforms, walked into that
classroom, each one carrying a school desk. And they placed those school
desks in rows and then they stood along the wall. And by the time they
had finished placing those desks, those kids, for the first time I think
perhaps in their lives, understood how they earned those desks.
Martha said, You don't have to earn those desks. These guys did it for
you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here
responsibly to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because
they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it.
Friends, I think sometimes we forget that the freedoms that we have are
freedoms not because of celebrities. Our freedoms are because of
ordinary people who did extraordinary things, who loved this country
more than life itself, and who not only earned a school desk for a kid
at the Robinson High School in Little Rock, but who earned a seat for
you and me to enjoy this great land we call home, this wonderful nation
that we better love enough to protect and preserve the solid values and
principles that made us a great nation.
We live in the Land of the Free, because of the brave.
Scorpions - Send Me An Angel
There I was, listening to the 5th Dimension sing about Aquarius, and I thought 'heyyyyy what about me?'  lol.  Actually, it was nice to hear it again on Spaceeagles  blog, and feeling left out, he made me an honorary Aquarian. Which was very nice and Thanks again SE. So, I thought I would do one of my favorite songs. The group's name in just co-incidental (yeah rite you say lol) Truthfully, the song is one of my favorites and the groups name suits me just fine *wink* (video is under the lyrics if you want to hear it)
Send Me An Angel - Scorpions
Music :rudolf schenker
Lyrics:klaus meine
The wise man said just walk this way
To the dawn of the light
The wind will blow into your face
As the years pass you by
Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and you will find
The passage out of the dark
Here i am
Will you send me an angel
Here i am
In the land of the morning star
The wise man said just find your place
In the eye of the storm
Seek the roses along the way
Just beware of the thorns
Here i am
Will you send me an angel
Here i am
In the land of the morning star
The wise man said just raise your hand
And reach out for the spell
Find the door to the promised land
Just believe in yourself
Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and you will find
The way out of the dark
Here i am
Will you send me an angel
Here i am
In the land of the morning star
Here i am
Will you send me an angel
Here i am
In the land of the morning star
Visitors Guestbook
While I don't wish to deny anybody the opportunity
to leave a comment, if they so desire,
I did decide to make my main guestbook for contacts only.
If you have anything positive or negative about my page
or anything I've said in a group you have seen me in,
you can post it here.
Varying opinions are welcome.
I won't hold it against you.
Welcome to my nuthouse hahaha
After A While
After a while, you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts.
And presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
Wtth the grace of God, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight
And after a while you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure.....
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and learn.......
And with every goodbye, you learn.
by Veronica A. Shoffstall
Sometimes
Sometimes the road of life
becomes unbearable and it seems
to be easier to give up than go on.
But you should remember that
there is light at the end of the tunnel.
For every tear; you will smile,
for every rainy day; there will be a rainbow,
and for every moment of every day,
forever and always
there will be someone
to love you and confide in.
I will always be there for you.
To carry you over the rocky roads
and lead you through the tunnels.
To share with you the smiles,
the tears,
the rainy days
and the rainbows.
Whenever you need me I will be there.
......God
(as seen on an e-card)
What is a friend?
What is a Friend ? I will tell you.
It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself.
Your soul can be naked with him, he seems to ask of you to put on nothing, only to be what you are.
He does not want you to be better or worse.
When you are with him, you feel as a prisoner feels who has been
declared innocent.
You do not have to be on your guard.
You can say what you think, so long as it is genuinely you.
He understands those contradictions in your nature that lead others to
misjudge you.
With him you breathe freely.
You can avow your little vanities and envies and hates and vicious
sparks, your meanness and absurdities and, in opening
them up to him, they are lost,
dissolved on the white ocean of his loyalty.
He understands, you do not have to be careful.
You can abuse him, neglect him, tolerate him.
Best of all, you can keep still with him.
It doesn't matter.  He likes you.
He is like fire that purges to the bone.
He understands, he understands.
You can weep with him, sin with him, laugh with him, pray with him.
Through it all -~~ and underneath ~~ he sees, knows, and loves you.
A Friend?   What is a Friend ??
Just one I repeat, with whom you dare to be yourself.
Three Mysteries
Study Carefully ... I'm not going to make it easy on you. You can't flip the bottom of the page for the answers. And flipping your monitor upside down won't help you either. I'll just have to come back and 'edit' this blog for you in a bit.  (I know, I'm evil haha)
------------------------------
-------------------------------
Mystery one
A man was found murdered Sunday morning.   His wife immediately called the police
The police questioned the wife and staff and got these answers:
The wife said she was sleeping.
The cook was preparing breakfast.
The gardener was gathering vegetables.
The maid was getting the mail.
The butler was polishing shoes in the pantry.
The police instantly arrested the murderer.   Who did it and how did they know?
------------------------------
----------------------------
Mystery two
A man walks into his bathroom and shoots himself right between the eyes using a real gun with real bullets.
He walks out alive, with no blood anywhere and no, he didn't miss and he wasn't Superman or any other crusader wearing a cape.
How did he do this?
------------------------------
------------------------
Mystery three
Old Mr. Teddy was found dead in his study by Mr. Fiend.  Mr. Fiend recounted his dismal discovery to the police:
'I was walking by Mr. Teddy's house when I thought I would just pop in for a visit.  I noticed his study light was on and I decided to peek in from the outside to see if he was in there.  There was frost on the window, so I had to wipe it away to see inside.
That is when I saw his body.  So I kicked in the front door to confirm my suspicions of foul play.   I called the police immediately afterward.'
The officer immediately arrested Mr. Fiend for the murder of Mr. Teddy.
How did he know Mr. Fiend was lying?
------------------------------------------------------
C'mon, you know you know these. *wink*
