Sunset Thinking

Sunset Thinking

Do you ever watch the sunset
And just sit and think about things
Just you and the sky and darkness
Giving your thoughts some wings
Perhaps you've got some troubles
And don't know what to do
Or you just plain need to get away
To spend a little time with you
Sunset beauty makes you feel as though
Your life has meaning after all
To see a sight so extraordinary
Makes you feel capable, srong and tall
It’s funny how flashes of color
Like a sunset or sunrise can inspire
It can calm your inner self a bit
It’s a scene you can never tire
The serenity gives you a chance
To put things in perspective
Life can be overwhelming at times
And a sunrise can be reflective
So when the sky lights up next time
Let your gaze do some drinking
Soak up and the amazing sights
And do some sunset thinking!

Sitting here at the Sidewalk Cafe

As the day comes to an end
And the night slowly descends
I sit here in the Sidewalk Cafe
Savouring my cup of tea

The lights across the bay
Twinkling on one by one
The whites, reds, and golds
Sparkling into my view

Not a ripple on the water
A mirror image it shall be
The boats bob quietly
Carefully not making not a peep

Such a beautiful fall evening
It turned out to be
The perfect way to end
A warm sunny day

I watch the people pass by
On their way here and there
Always on a mission
Busy as beavers they be

So intent on their errands
Their day not yet over
They don't see me here
Relaxing near the sycamore tree

The cafe umbrella over head
Protection from the sun
Now has been tilted back
So that I might view the night

I cannot help but wonder
Curious sort as I am
What the passing people would do
If I was to call out a Hello?

Would they not hear
So intent on their journey?
Or look at me strange
Wondering about me?

I am enjoying my oneness here
My peace and quiet time
As I contemplate life
As they go whizzing by

Should you stop at my greeting
Smile and say hi to me
I would invite you to sit
Enjoy a cup with me

Get to know what it's like
To just sit awhile and reflect
No rush, no bother or fuss
Relax yourself and just be

After A While

After a while, you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts.
And presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
Wtth the grace of God, not the grief of a child.

And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight
And after a while you learn

That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure.....
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and learn.......
And with every goodbye, you learn.

Sometimes

Sometimes the road of life
becomes unbearable and it seems
to be easier to give up than go on.
But you should remember that
there is light at the end of the tunnel.
For every tear; you will smile,
for every rainy day; there will be a rainbow,
and for every moment of every day,
forever and always
there will be someone
to love you and confide in.
I will always be there for you.
To carry you over the rocky roads
and lead you through the tunnels.
To share with you the smiles,
the tears,
the rainy days
and the rainbows.
Whenever you need me I will be there.
......God
(as seen on an e-card)

What is a friend?

What is a Friend ? I will tell you.
It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself.
Your soul can be naked with him, he seems to ask of you to put on nothing, only to be what you are.
He does not want you to be better or worse.
When you are with him, you feel as a prisoner feels who has been
declared innocent.
You do not have to be on your guard.
You can say what you think, so long as it is genuinely you.
He understands those contradictions in your nature that lead others to
misjudge you.
With him you breathe freely.
You can avow your little vanities and envies and hates and vicious
sparks, your meanness and absurdities and, in opening
them up to him, they are lost,
dissolved on the white ocean of his loyalty.
He understands, you do not have to be careful.
You can abuse him, neglect him, tolerate him.
Best of all, you can keep still with him.
It doesn't matter.  He likes you.
He is like fire that purges to the bone.
He understands, he understands.
You can weep with him, sin with him, laugh with him, pray with him.
Through it all -~~ and underneath ~~ he sees, knows, and loves you.
A Friend?   What is a Friend ??
Just one I repeat, with whom you dare to be yourself.

Desiderata - Max Erhmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I first heard this poem about 4 years ago as a song by Les Crane (1971) when a friend played it for me. He passed away a couple years later, but I still try to remember this song and the meaning behind the words. Sometimes I forget though. It's just been lately that I've been really  struggling with a couple issues in my word, and for whatever reason, this song popped into my head this morning as I was booting down the road to start my day. Timing I suppose.
Like somebody knocking me upside the head and saying "did you forget?"
Sometimes I do forget. Some of it is ingrained in me, the way I am. Some I do need to remember so that I keep peace in my soul rather than let others get to me.

Beautiful Satiation

Beautiful Satiation

We carefully search for beauty where beauty never stood
I never did attain it, I knew I never could
The simple shapes of earth cannot satiate my need
I need true beauty; beauty like the world can never see
Mirrors lie and people judge the faults they themselves reflect
Pointing out my problems while ignoring their own regrets
Beauty is elusive, serpentine, slick, and rare
We find angelic features aplenty but true beauty isn’t there
Reflected not by mirrored glass, but in our good deeds
True beauty lies locked within our souls, and love is the only key

Walk With Me - Linda Ann Henry

Walk with me, See what I see
Take my hand, understand who I am, and why
Look in the mirror, touch my soul with yours
Talk to me, I am a caterpillar struggling to
become a butterfly.
Walk with me, let us look at the bright sun
I do not want to feel the world has come to an end
Will you be my one true friend ?
People do not see a butterfly as I fly into the sky
I want you to come with me, hold me close
Let your blue eyes take in the beauty
Of flowers and rainbows, I do not want to be alone
Walk with me, have the hope I have
If I kiss your lips, I will be in heaven
I give you my whole heart, I know you care
For I have been with you everywhere
Walk with me, you are my strength
Without you I am weak
We are one, man and woman
When I smile, the love inside me becomes all
that is true
You are pure, good,  you are my happiness
I am safe when I walk with you
