Ok ....
I will give anybody lucky (or unlucky) enough to get notifications that I posted a bunch of blogs some time off from me moving any more over.
That is if there is any left to move.
Oh, wait, there might be. But tomorrow.
If I had been smarter, I could have just done them one or two a day over time and not worry about what I was going to blog about next eh?? *wink*
Kidding. Wouldn't put you through all that .... again !!! hahaha
I was holding off for a bit, delaying transforming them over to here. But several things recently made me change my mind.
One being Yahoo's experiment with Mush ... errr Mash. Sorry, I wasn't very keen on it and having the ability to make up a page for someone/them changing things around on your page etc, sort of rubbed me the wrong way. If I go to the trouble of setting up a page to my liking, best friends or not, don't think I would want you to come along and re-do it for me haha. And who is to say their replacement won't be much of the same idea ?? Won't know for certain until the grand unveiling.
Then there were experiences in other places within Yahooland that had gotten me very disenchanted with them. While not really experiencing a whole lot of bugs with 360, have read enough that many people did. But I did experience the feeds stalling, typing away in a blog - only to have the page take forever to post - to find out it didn't. Another yahoo product I had gotten involved in, which led to discussions in a forum, which led to discussions in a group about said product and yahoo basically yawning into their hand and patting us on the tush as they shuffled us along and out the door.
And yes, I do use their messenger. Unless all my contacts are willing to head on over to the MSN messenger, I'll continue to use it. But I used to go into their chat rooms (another long story) and their handling of the bots (spammers) sort of didn't make it an enjoyable experience unless you were lucky enough to have Ytunnel and could make them disappear. Now, 4 years later, they're trying to get a handle on them. (about time !!)
So not exactly sure I want to wait for their next "new-and-improved" beta product, find out I don't like it and move my blogs here then.
And it wasn't like I had nothing to do today other than to move my blogs over.
I just decided to practice my procrastination option and chose to ignore it. But I know I'll pay for it in a day or two when I'm rushing to get it done then.

But why now to connect it to my other 360? My friend would have turned 58 December 13th if he had stayed with us. I still miss our talks, even though I didn't see him much the last couple of months. He'd be happy to know that I have found other friends that I enjoy spending time with, embarked on other things to keep me busy. Finally got that correspondence course going and doing well with it.
So I am thanking the person who helped me find some self-esteem, some self-confidence and helped me on the path to finding myself again. I may not be complete, but I am on my way.

I am at a bit of a loss today as I just found out a friend of over 2 years had passed away in April. His health had prevented him staying online and in touch with those that knew and loved him for the past 6 months or so.
So many memories came flying back of the times we spent together, either one on one, or part of a group. The laughter, the lessons, the music we shared, all revealing the person each of us are, if we chose to be honest with ourselves and with the people we were with.
I will never forget how he looked into my soul, found some answers that I didn't know was there, and made me take a deeper look for the person I had lost for many years. The questions he asked to make me understand myself better. And the questions I asked to understand him better, sometimes, cautiously answered.
And the joking back and forth about "dust bunnies" as if they were real creatures he lived with. He talking about the parties and orgies (the bunnies, not him lol) and the hugs and secrets the bunnies and I shared. How they would crowd the computer screen, looking for my hugs, so that he couldn't see. hehehe
He was a complex man and at the same time living life very simply. Having lived the life he did, learning who the man was inside his shell.
They say that friends enter your life for a Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime. Knows he came into my life for a reason, for a season, and I won't soon forget him either.
This "Canookian" will continue to miss that "Amookian". Be at peace Bill. I will be ok, even tho you are scratching your head with me today. All the talks we had about death being a natural end etc etc., and I threw all that out the window this morning. Yes, I did cry for you. Even tho I had never really cried or mourned anyone's passing before. It's the realization that you've left us, too soon, even though the fates said it was your time. You didn't understand it, but you meant so much to me and was proud to have called you "friend".
A friend is someone who thinks you're a good egg, even though you're slightly cracked.

I saw the shoe of the man next to me..... Touching my own. I sighed.
With plenty of room on either side...... I thought,
"Why must our soles touch?"
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine... But it didn't bother him much.
A prayer began: "Our Father"............. I thought, "This man with the shoes.. Has no pride.
They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!"
"Thank You for blessings," the prayer went on.
The shoe man said............... A quiet "Amen."
I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again
Aren't we supposed to look our best.. When walking through that door?
"Well, this certainly isn't it," I thought, Glancing toward the floor.
Then the prayer was ended............ And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud...... Sounding proud as he sang.
His voice lifted the rafters......... His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear.. The shoe man's voice from the sky.
It was time for the offering......... And what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached.... Into his pockets so deep.
I saw what was pulled out............ What the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft "clink" . As when silver hits tin.
The sermon really bored me......... To tears, and that's no lie
It was the same for the shoe man..... For tears fell from his eyes.
At the end of the service........ As is the custom here
We must greet new visitors.. And show them all good cheer.
But I felt moved somehow............ And wanted to meet the shoe man
So after the closing prayer.......... I reached over and shook his hand.
He was old and his skin was dark..... And his hair was truly a mess
But I thanked him for coming........ For being our guest.
He said, "My names' Charlie.......... I'm glad to meet you, my friend."
There were tears in his eyes......... But he had a large, wide grin
"Let me explain," he said........... Wiping tears from his eyes.
"I've been coming here for months.... And you're the first to say 'Hi.'"
"I know that my appearance........."Is not like all the rest
"But I really do try................."To always look my best."
"I always clean and polish my shoes.."Before my very long walk.
"But by the time I get here........."They're dirty and dusty, like chalk"

Flying Walenda
I like to think of myself as being curious about things and people, but I have been told "You're too nosy" hahaha. Welllllllllllllllllllllll maybe I go to the extreme sometimes.
Been on a bit of a curiosity quest lately. I find/found it hard to sit and ramble on about myself or my day or my kid and such in a blog. Somewhere along the line, I lost the confidence in myself that people might actually be interested enough to read it. Actually, the confidence thing goes back a long way. Long before 360's and such. People accused me of being too quiet. Watch out for the quiet ones they would say hahaha. And I would just sit there and go hmmmmmm when they said that.
One thing in this curiosity quest I have been doing is reading other peoples blogs. Those on my friends lists, maybe a few of your friends, but also the ones that Yahoo has on the home page as being 'interesting'. I must say I am amazed and a little envious that people can be so relaxed and open to talk about themselves like that.
Had just read one of Yahoo's 'interesting' blogs this morning, where this woman blogged about being a klutz. I chuckled and could relate to a couple parts of her blog. She talked about falling down the stairs. I call it my 'flying walenda' trick hahaha. My out-laws learned a few things about their outdoor stairs the hard way .. usually because I was lying in a heap at the bottom of them hahaha. And go figure, as much as I was pretty colourful at times (not the language colourful hahaha), I didn't break anything, other than maybe my pride.
The first time I fell down their stairs, they had just built this house and had moved in, about 18 years ago. It was a bungalo, but the basement was partially above ground, so the stairs outside to get to ground level had about 8 treads. It was Christmas. They were now living in the 'snowbelt' and had lots of snow. We had just had a good visit with family. It was dark when we were leaving. My son and his dad were sitting in the pick-up truck while I was still doing the good-bye, thanks for everything thing. My mother in-law bakes every year and puts together a goody basket for everyone to take home. She had it in a small rectangular aluminum pan that year with aluminum foil covering it.
Out the door I go.
Top of the stairs.
Take one step down, feet go out from under me, and didn't hit another step.
Yep.
Flat on my back in the small snow drift at the bottom of the stairs.
I look up at the stars. Then, as human nature will do, you look around to see if anybody had seen you fall, while hoping nobody did so as to not suffer the embarrassment. Right??
Wellllllllllllllllllll
My sons dad was looking out the truck window at me, shaking his head. (no, he didn't get out to see if I was alright or anything)
My mother in-law was standing at the door horrified, but unwilling to run out in her slippers and as she said "what can an old lady do?" But the sweetheart she is, she was upset I might have hurt myself and started yelling for someone to come rescue me. (great, more people to witness my frolic in the snow drift)
I did manage to pick myself up. Just not sure how lady-like I was doing it tho'. Winter coat, boots and all that fun stuff one puts on to keep from freezing. Picked up my purse, which I managed to zip close before leaving (and if you know me, you know I have a bad habit of not closing it) so everything stayed put.
Discussing my flying walenda trick a few days later, the one thing that seemed to have struck my mother in-law, my sons' dad, and myself? There I was, lying on my back in a snow drift at the bottom of the stairs, staring up at the stars, and in my hand, holding it up for protection ........ was the goody basket. I had fallen down those stairs and didn't lose a cookie, a square, a rumball, or anything else. And it wasn't like the aluminum foil covering the thing was taped shut or anything. But the cover stayed on as if it was. Hmmmmm guess I was meant to enjoy a rumball or two when I got home hahaha.
Wasn't my only trip down those stairs the "rather quickly" way over the years. They are wooden steps, so my father-in-law put on those rubber tread things to make them safer (after the first time I cleared them). And he was nice enough to not say 'for Patti's sake" hahaha. And each time I took a trip down those stairs the way they weren't intended, he would try to fix them somehow. And usually because it happened in winter, I suffered through the zingers of "shall I help you down the stairs?" "want me to walk out with you?". Ha Ha Ha Thanks anyways. Eventually I wasn't allowed to carry even my purse out the door so I had nothing to put me in harms way.
So, think I took about 4 flying walenda's down those stairs in the winter. And no, not the same winter hahahaha None any other time of year. And actually took time off my circus act for about 6 years.
Until about 3 years ago.
Yep.
Something inside me just had to do a flying walenda down those stairs again.
Totally unexpected. Totally unplanned.
It wasn't even winter !!!!!
It was summer !!
My father in-law had decided that the small deck and the stairs needed repainting. The poor guy never thought to put sand in the paint for the treads. Anything to not make them 'slippery when wet'.
Yep. You guessed it.
It was raining that day............
For My Crackpot Friends
One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.
But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.
"I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."
The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"
"That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them."
"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."
Each of us has our own unique flaw, but it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

So now what?? I stare at a blank screen. Hoping the little pussy cat in the corner will talk to me and help me out here. But so far, he’s only stared at me, twitched his ears, scratched, cleaned a leg and I’m sure he’s contemplating a snooze any time now. Sheesh!! Ohhhhhhhh just great !! He’s got blue paint on his paws and decided to decorate. Hang on, I have to clean up before I can continue ….
Ok. I’m back. Now where was I??

See? If we were having a chin wag ala Tom (I_C_Y_U_R),, then I can and do come out with the darndest things and make you question your sanity talking to me. But I’m not good at a group setting and I’m trying to get that idea out of my head – that what I’m doing at the moment is talking to a group. Doesn’t matter if only one or two people read it. Just ask baba over on my friends list. I am mostly very quiet (for the most part *wink* ) in a chat room, but can be a little more gabby in an IM.

fiddles with hair and messes it up. Goes to bathroom to brush it – need to look my best for this ya know. Won’t tell you I’m having a lazy day and still in my nightgown and slippers (feet got cold – much prefer barefeet so my tootsies can breathe)
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry the other day. My son (was going to say kid, but as Ninja says in his questionairre blog, only goats have those lol) reminded me sooooo much of my dad when I was much younger. My dad, one night, was reading a book, listing to music on the radio, and had a hockey game going on the tv. Well!! There is my son …. Hockey game on the tv, headset on listening to music downloaded onto the PC, and surfing the web !!!! Okay, maybe a little more technology advanced than my dad at the time, but heaven forbid you turned the tv station on either one of them. (an experiment to see if they were paying attention that resulted in me getting an evil eye from the both of them – about 30 years apart hahaha)

I had posted a comment on Tom’s page about ‘wacky sense of humours being contagious’. But I got thinking about it and now am wondering if they are actually inherited instead. You know … a WSOH being passed down the gene pool sort of thing. And only because I’m not sure one can easily influence the type of anothers’ sense of humour. One either has a wacky one, a dry one, etc
There’s my dad. He can be out splitting wood for the wood stove. But when he sits down to tell you about it, you end up with sore cheeks from laughin’ so much.
There’s my son. He doesn’t talk (birth defect) but his wacky sense of humour comes out in his antics. Mostly when he’s bowling – the gestures – imitating Hulk Hogan at times (and others), flexing his biceps when he gets a strike etc. Dropping flat on his back when the ball goes way off in left field or something. Mom laughs while blushing. Good thing his teammates laugh..Most people do, but mom does have to stay on top of him that he doesn’t throw others off their game.
Then there’s me. And no, I’m not going to tell. Wouldn’t want to scare you off. Hahahaha
And the cat in the corner just went for a nap.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '97... wear sunscreen. If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be IT. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are NOT as fat as you imagine. Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday. Do one thing every day that scares you.
Sing. Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss. Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself. Remember compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how. Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch. Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't. Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone. Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself, either. Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's. Enjoy your body, use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Dance. Even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room. Read the directions, even if you don't follow them. Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly. Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; they are your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young. Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel. Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders. Respect your elders. Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out. Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85. Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth. But trust me on the sunscreen. |
